Tips for Seamless Glam ✨

Written By: Chantel Turk, Owner, Orange Pearl Salon

The day of your wedding should be relaxing, exciting, and fun, sharing the time with your entire wedding party for pampering. The key to a stress-free morning is to schedule ample time to get ready! If you run behind on things like hair and makeup it can be difficult to get back on track the rest of the day. By including enough prep time you’ll be relaxed and ready to go when it’s time for the ceremony. At Orange Pearl Salon & Spa, our expert bridal team shares tips to help you keep everything on track and effortless.

How Much Time to Allot

Don’t skimp on the time you give your beauty professionals. Work backward from your ceremony time to determine when you and your party need to finish with all beauty services, including hair, makeup, and nails. Keep in mind that you and your photographer may need time to take any photos before the ceremony and make sure anyone that’s going to be in the photos of you getting dressed has had their hair and makeup done. Determine when you need to be done and work with your salon’s bridal coordinator or stylist and MUA to come up with a timeline for services keeping in mind hair and makeup services typically last 45 minutes to an hour each for high-quality looks that last all day, and you can expect 2 to 3 hours for yourself. When working with individuals expect to need more time. If you have a large party or a tight timeline you may want to consider a larger salon with a team of pros to expedite the process.  Another Pro insight? Nothing seems final until the bride's hair and makeup are finished!

Schedule Wisely

The first order of business is to nail down who is receiving what services. Last-minute service additions are difficult to accommodate and lead to disappointment and you may be charged if a member of your wedding party drops out at the last minute. Be proactive about the order of services for your bridal party when working with the event coordinator.  Schedule the most responsible in your party for the early morning slots. Also, keep in mind that the mother of the bride may need to finish early or last for last-minute duties like decorating and plan accordingly. If one of your bridesmaids has young children work with her to know when they will need child care to watch them to ensure they are not in danger so that she can enjoy the process. Flower girls should generally be scheduled last and come later so they are not waiting around for a long time and to keep their look intact.

Be Flexible

Keep in mind that the schedule for the day is less about exact “appointment” times and more about the flow of how the morning will progress. Everyone is different and some may require a little more or less time. Your party needs to know when they are scheduled to be available when it is their turn, but not to get too hung up on the exact time. If possible, advise everyone in your party to arrive at the same time so they can be more fluid if something does come up.

Come Prepared

Make sure you schedule a wedding day trial for your hair and makeup at least a month ahead of time to make sure you like the results and make it less stressful for both you and your beauty pros! This allows for any changes to be made and a smoother day-of experience. If you have a vision in mind for your party, work with your beauty experts to determine the parameters ahead of time so everyone is on the same page, and your beauty looks can be executed flawlessly.

Additional Tips

You and your party should arrive with moisturized skin and clean dry hair for the best results. It is a myth that your hair should be dirty, and it can be detrimental to your style taking shape and holding all night long. Hair washed the night before and has a mousse or styling gel applied to it is best. If your hair is particularly oily, your wash day should be the morning of your wedding. Wear clothing that can easily be taken off! Most bridal parties wear robes or button-up shirts to make changing a breeze, and these clothing choices won’t disturb your hair and makeup. It is also advisable to purchase the lip color you are wearing for touch ups throughout your wedding day.

Make sure you have breakfast and snacks for everyone to graze on during the glam squad process, and plenty of drinks to stay hydrated. The bridal beauty process can take a while, and you want your party to be well taken care of during the hours of application. Be sure to ask your salon to stage an area for your food and beverage to help minimize any potential spillage accidents on bridal party gowns!

By shoring up your day of timeline and proactively addressing all these points, you will reap the rewards of a relaxing enjoyable start and beautiful finish to one of the biggest days of your life.
