As we anticipate the newest bridal trends, we look to the runways for inspiration! Dominated by romantic and whimsical styles; ruffle skirts, unique sleeves, and floral motifs were standouts. To help you prepare for which styles will be soon coming into stores, let’s break down the top wedding dress trends of this year.

Square Necklines

The sweetheart and plunging neckline have had their moment in the spotlight. Now, it’s time to turn our attention to a more contemporary neckline! For the modern and sophisticated bride, the square neckline accentuates the collarbone and highlights the shoulders. This style is incredibly flattering on any size bust, offering a bit more coverage and modesty compared to other necklines. Brides can now think more in depth about what kind of neckline they will feel comfortable in before dress shopping. It’s no longer an either-or option!

Bold Sleeves

Looking to make a statement? Designers took the traditional sleeve and gave it a modern twist. Making a major comeback this year, bell sleeves and bishop sleeves add a dimension of elegance and drama to any dress. For a more delicate effect, off-the-shoulder sleeves add a soft and subtle flare keeping the appearance more understated. Designers are also offering more detachable sleeve options for maximum versatility. This offers brides the opportunity to have two looks in one and change up the design heading into the reception. Exchange the bold, off-the-shoulder bell sleeve for a blinged-out spaghetti strap and you’re ready to go.

Floral Accents

While bohemian and bold lace patterns are still trending, delicate floral accents ruled this year’s runway. Designers showcased new floral laces and emphasized embellishments like three-dimensional appliques and floral beadwork. This trend lends itself particularly well to rustic or romantic wedding themes. This detail is also the perfect complement to an outdoor venue or destination wedding. Keeping with the floral motif, there are so many beautiful ways to highlight or accessorize this style: incorporating fresh greenery into your hair or wearing a flower crown finishes the romantic, lacey look.

Ruffles

A twist on the traditional ballgown, ruffle skirts add a new dimension we haven’t seen in bridal in quite some time. This style in particular really highlights the waist line and is a great option for petite or pear-shaped brides. The body of the skirt has so much movement and character, it really is the perfect style if you want a playful, wispy gown. Going for a more classic aesthetic? A simple, ruffle skirt gown can also be styled with more traditional details: add a cathedral veil or some statement earrings and the look instantly becomes the modern take on a classic silhouette.

Flowy Silhouette

An A-line silhouette is one of our favorites because it’s truly the most comfortable fit! It flatters all body types, accentuating the smallest part of the waist. This style gives you a sleek, slimming look without feeling snug through the hips. Fabrics like chiffon, soft tulle, and organza give the skirt just enough volume without feeling extra heavy or poofy.

Other unique details debuted on the runway this year as well: brands use embellishments like slits, cutouts, and corset bodices on their statement gowns. We’re interested to see how these details trend in the future, but for now we’re so excited to see how brides respond to the 2022 trends!
