How to Pick Your Wedding Florals:
Style & Theme of Wedding
Color Scheme
Complementary colored florals to enhance chosen color scheme
Choosing seasonal florals to match the season of your wedding
Assessing and identifying filler flowers/accent flowers/greenery
Look for a florist who offers a free consultation. During this time, the bride and groom have an opportunity to meet privately with the selected florist to share their optimal floral goals. Find the florist that matches the energy and tempo you were looking for with your floral goals. Building this strong rapport between the florist and the customer is a vital factor in creating a cohesive floral consultation. At the end of this consultation, you and your florist should be in understanding and in agreement with the florals recommended/preferred for the wedding at hand.
Keeping your budget in mind but allow room for flexibility
Building a floral budget is ideal before meeting with your florist
Don't be shy about sharing your budget. This allows you and your florist to plan accordingly for the wedding of your dreams.
Understanding that floral wedding consultations are on an estimate.
Just like the seasons change, some variables become out of a florist control. An example: natural disasters can inhibit the accountability of crops available for harvesting.
Talk to your florist about sourcing locally-grown flowers. They may have some recommendations during peak floral farm seasons.
A common myth: accent, flowers, filler, flowers and greenery are inexpensive. Contrary to this belief, greenery, filler flowers, and accent flowers still cost money. Price points vary on each of these and can change seasonally.
A gentle reminder for all future couples - not everything you see on the internet is real. Say what? This all of us know, but it is easy to forget when we are adoring and swooning over our wedding florals. Oftentimes faux flowers or silk flowers are used to create an out-of-season look. More recently trendy are wooden flowers. These can often be easily mistaken for real flowers. Be sure to take the time to meet with a florist and assess the images you've saved to share during your consultation. Your florist is going to want to see all your ideas. It will be important that you are receptive to hearing what they have to say to the images you bring to your consultation.
Last but not least, your Wedding day is a reflection of the love that you and your significant other share. This means you should feel free to get creative with your florist. Bring your fun, edgy, cool, and eclectic ideas to the table. As a florist, we encourage you to get creative and think out of the box! In fact, we love it!
